Participants in the Coleridge Adult Training Program have the opportunity to participate in many recreational and community activities throughout the year. Recreational and community inclusion activities include:
- Coleridge hosts annual luncheons to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Las Posadas, Hanukah, Kwanza and Easter. Holidays such as Dia de los Muertos and African American History Month are celebrated.
- Community inclusion activities are offered to our participants. These include shopping, field trips to local museums and theatres, and attending sport events.
- Participants are involved in the Special Olympics events including bowling, softball, and track and field. They also take part in the Olympic Village at the Hilton Chicago.
- An Arts Facilitator hosts weekly art classes for our program participants to explore the various facets of art, and to prepare for upcoming exhibits and events. Participants often display their work at local festivals and galleries, and often attend the show openings.
- The Imagination Workshop, facilitated by two professional actors from the community, is an improvisational theatre group comprised of Coleridge participants. The group performs at Esperanza as well as other community events.
- The Esperanza choir is comprised of Coleridge participants and high school students from Esperanza School. The choir performs on special occasions such as the annual open house and holiday festivals.
