The Esperanza School Art Program provides art instruction within a caring, respectful, and educational environment. The art program emphasizes the instruction of transferable skills that can be applied in to other activities, such as team work and project management. The program also incorporates techniques from occupational therapy, special education, and art therapy to maximize each student’s experience. Using a multicultural theory approach, art projects are designed to allow students to identify and explore their native cultures, languages, and politics. The curriculum is developed according to the Illinois State Board of Education’s guidelines yet is individualized to the students’ abilities and goals.
